Skinny jeans can be hazardous to your health and tips on where to find them

First off, a warning:  I understand that some women (perhaps men too)  have developed nerve impingement syndromes from wearing skinny jeans.  So, take it from Esme—if you experience pain, numbness or tingling in your legs, feet or ankles (or any other body part for that matter), stop shopping immediately, get someone to help you remove your skinny jeans, and call your doctor!  Now I am unlikely to have this problem, as I am like the princess-and-the-pea; that is, I can’t abide anything tight, binding, itchy, or, when it comes down to it, anything that really fits. But I know that most of you (including Kate) don’t have this problem and so may be at risk for the syndrome described above.

Okay, so sometime in the spring we started off shopping at Anthropologie, where we’d had some success in the past.  Their AG jeans were quite nice, if a bit low-cut, and we tried on multiple pairs and of course some belts, tops, sweaters, t’s to go with them. The tops are really cute, with unusual patterns and fabrics, but many of them are cut in an empire waist style, which probably looks better on the less-well-endowed.  It was an exhausting afternoon and the salespeople kept their smiles on, but in the end, we decided to stop for a glass of wine at my house and explore other options while we waited for the AG jeans to go on sale (really they are quite pricey).

Of course, this is a risky course as a) they might not go on sale, and b) if they do, they might be out of your size.  Often you can remedy this by shopping on-line, but I don’t necessarily recommend this when it comes to jeans, as each individual pair tends to be unique in small but crucial ways that you can only discern by trying them on.  Of course, if you are not a princess-and-the-pea type, this may not be of great importance.

More to come of course,

Esme
