wines for car week

wine mobile

my favorite part of car week (as with many other weeks) is the eating and drinking part.  we have a long tradition of no-holds-barred dining, which has tended to expand rather than contract (as have our waistlines) as the years go by.

this year has included chicken cordon bleu at christopher’s, rack of lamb at bistro moulin, and halibut at rio grill. restaurants are bursting with activity for car-week and reservations are a must.  other diners are often “interesting car people” (a belgium concours judge for alfa 2.9’s, a couple who had just driven up from santa barbara in their ferarri, a german mercedes big-wig), and many are elegantly dressed.

one diner we witnessed shall go down in history as having the most remarkable display of implants ever seen;  while esme was a bit dismayed, the guys just could not stop talking about her uh…array.  how i do wish i had a photo to show you, but perhaps you will be caught in her headlights yourself!

this year, vinnie whineberg joined us for car week.  he had bought a beautiful 370z in dark cherry with burgundy roof and wine interior for the occasion.  he also brought along a 370z-load of wine.  my favorite thus far has been a 1966 beychevelle.  omg, was that delicious—exotic spices, earth, i can’t tell you!  it took him 5 five minutes to uncork the bottle as delicately as a neurosurgeon, and from the look of the cork (disgusting and moldy) you would never have guessed how beautiful the wine would be.

anyway, all of us have blood pressure issues, and were concerned about the effects of the week’s extravagances on our numbers.  next morning at breakfast we had a little blood pressure fest.  vinnie was not happy with his numbers (but he couldn’t get those implants off his mind so maybe that was the problem), esme was quite relieved about hers, and mr. noir refused to participate.   ah the joys of middle-age…….

as mr. noir says, ya gotta live live live,

esme
