corks from washington and oregon

i almost forgot to tell you about the food and wine we had on our trip!  we dined on the most delicious fish!  i was ready to go on a fish diet! the silverwater cafe in port townsend prepared a fabulous ginger salmon.  we went back another night and had an equally tasty ahi with lavendar pepper.

even the little lunch booths at the wooden boat show had good food:  i had a grilled salmon sandwich with lettuces and aioli on a soft roll which i’ve been fantasizing about for weeks, and mr. noir sampled paella.  another port townsend restaurant (the fountain cafe) did not take reservations, and had a line out the door by 5:00 p.m.  i went off my fish diet for a day to try the chicken with apricots and garlic (a bit like the chicken marbella that many of my friends make)—-well worth it!

we also decided to test out the local wines.  you can see that we did a yeoman’s job by the assemblage of corks pictured above.  i refrained from desserts or blueberry pancakes; attempting to keep one’s figure with little exercise, hours of driving, unpredictable meals and no scale (!) was not an easy task!  we saw many cows along the way, as well as a herd of goats.  i had a brief fantasy of becoming an ovo-lacto-pesco-vegetarian, but probably enjoy my omnivorous habits to much to act on it.

nothing fishy here,

esme
