SNIPPET: FAUX FUR HAS BEEN AROUND FOR AGES

leopard skin robe

another fun fact from fashion history is that the ancient egyptians wore faux fur!  priests would wear simulated leopard skins draped over the shoulder.  the idea was that an animal’s fur conferred that animal’s power on the wearer.  and esme supposes that it was way too hot in egypt for the wearing of real fur.  (or perhaps the egyptians, like californians, opposed the killing of animals for their fur….hmmmm).  no wonder esme (and the rest of you) have been coveting faux fur or feathers:  i would love to have the grace and power of a hawk, the stealth of a panther, the swiftness of the leopard.  is there something universal about our desire to be one with an animal?  hunter says this is fine, as long as it involves napping together and not the stealing of skin!

channeling my wildness,

esme
