SNIPPET: JAPANESE QUAKE FASHION – THE BOSAI ZUKIN

by admin on April 3, 2011

bosai zukin (protective headcover)

esme learned a fascinating little fact about japan.  school children are required to have an item called a bosai zukin (protective headcover)—a cushion which can be put over the head and draped about the neck in the event of earthquake.

very clever and not bad-looking!  i particularly like the hi-tech look of the one pictured above!  perhaps purses or briefcases for adults could be made in a similar vein!

when christophe was small, esme used to think that everyone should be required to wear helmets in their cars.  at least now there are helmets for snowboarding and surfing, though it’s still not “cool” to wear them.

the trick is to provide function in beautiful form—put your thinking caps on!
