mr. noir arrived at the monterey airport on a little prop plane just in time to be whisked off for a lovely valentine’s day dinner at bistro moulin. we opened a special bottle of french champagne (previously purchased at vvw in palo alto) and traded tales of our week apart. mr. noir had been in chicago attending the death and funeral of a beloved cousin, while esme…..well, you know what esme was doing! sex and death. death and sex. the fundamentals of the human condition (after food and fashion of course!).
valentine’s day was the first opportunity that esme had had to wear the fabulous crea dress that she had purchased at sylvie (50% off on jan. 3). it’s a kind of monastic-looking frock but rather sexy and exceedingly comfortable. it even has long sleeves, a real plus in our perennially chilly carmel climate. just the right bit of decollete adds some spice. esme was tempted to accessorize with her murano glass heart necklace but when she tried it on, it detracted from the edgy monkishness of the dress.
some of you may think it odd to embrace a monastic look on valentine’s day, but this has always been one of esme’s favorite aesthetics. indeed, it appears that this look is one (among many) of the trends for spring. check out this page from the most recent elle magazine.
in any case, esme felt quite chic amongst a small group of glittery diners, and hopes to wear this dress for many seasons to come. it even looked good with her taryn rose shoes!
