black and tan

if you don’t want to go whole hog with color-blocking, you might try a few color-blocked accessories.  color-blocked shoes are popping up like crocuses in the spring.  esme even bought a pair of black-on-tan ballet flats over the summer.  she loved them, and they looked great with a number of her outfits.  however, she soon discovered that the fit of those ballet flats that curl up is different from that of regular shoes:  they need to fit like a glove so they’ll flatten out when you wear them.  all of which is to say that esme had bought them too big!  fortunately she was able to pass them on to her sister roz, whose feet are just a size bigger.

but black-and-tan is relatively tame.  you can find all sorts of electric-colored combinations on shoes this spring.  indeed, esme spied some very cute driving mocs at cole haan.  they were bright fuchsia, and could be a color-block unto themselves if combined with a brightly colored jean.

there is also jewelry, belts, scarves…….esme recalled a nice pair of native american silver-and-turquoise earrings lurking in her jewelry box that might pass for color-blocked.  just don’t put too many color-blocked items on at once, or you may end up looking like a block-head!

trying to avoid such a fate,
