esme is having one of those wonderful days when she has more ideas than time and energy to write them down. yes, this happens to fashion bloggers as well as to artists of all stripes. so she’ll start with the most recent: her fortuitous discovery of the perfect 50′s style dress right in her own backyard!
a sub rosa quest for a 50′s style dress has been underway for several months. this started with the desire to have such a dress to wear to christophe’s graduation, but soon became an end in itself. as you may recall, esme has tried on several versions of this style, none of which have been quite right: a marimeko, a samantha sung dress from madrigal, a ziba dress, a polka dot j crew.
then, as luck would have it, she was linking to her friend dorothy’s website (quelqueschoses) when what did she spy but a simple, chic 50′s style dress! a quick call confirmed that chartreuse carried one is esme’s size. it’s made of a fine cotton lawn, has 3/4 length sleeves with darling little cuffs, a bias-cut skirt that hangs just right, and pockets! even the unusual salmon color looked rather fab on esme! mr. noir concurred. the dress can be worn buttoned up, or open over a cami and leggings (or even just the right meant-to-be-seen bra).
it turns out that this frock was a sample that never quite made it to production. esme so hopes that she managed to persuade dorothy to turn out a few more of these, because i just know you will all want one!
you may have a bit of a wait, however. dorothy is in the midst of a huge transition. she will be moving to a fabulous space in carmel plaza (remember where talbots used to be?). she will have a retail space on the second floor, and a spacious studio on the third floor. doors are set to open on may 23, and i’ll let you know when the party is!
