amazing how a little neck surgery and its sequelai can force one’s interest in fashion underground.  can’t shop.  not easy to read a large magazine.  even riffling through one’s own closet is a bit hard on the body.  the other day i realized i had read not one but two fall fashion magazines and retained not a thing about what’s in fashion!  this was a bad sign.

there was nothing for it but to do some re-reading.  the trend that jumped out at me was plaid.  long plaid skirts.  plaid bomber jackets.  boots with plaid trim.  ah to be a scotsman!  i recall with some fondness a beautifully made plaid kilt i had in the early ’60’s.  forest green, blue, black with some white, it was knee-length with a leather buckle, a silver pin, and a vertical fringe.  i probably wore it with a white blouse with a peter pan collar.  a slightly longer version would fit right in today!

and just look at these plaid leggings.  i wouldn’t mind some of those myself.  but what to wear with them?  a peter pan collar would just not do it for me in this day and age!

nostalgic about plaid,
